Beckett James, 2 Years

I have a hashtag on Instagram that’s #OhBeckett. It’s something I say to him about 20 times a day: When he crawls up on my lap and gives me a hug and a kiss without me asking I will sigh and say “Oh Beckett, I love you”. When he runs towards a cup of water or Daisy’s dog bowl and pours it out before I can reach him I sigh and say “Oh Beckett, why did you do that?” When he throws a temper tantrum or pulls someone’s hair I get annoyed and say “Oh Beckett, behave yourself!” When he’s playing in another room and I can’t see him I will call out “Oh Beckett, where are you?” Normally he yells out “Dining room”. Ha! He always hides in there.

Oh Beckett, I am sitting here trying to wrap my head around the fact that you are two years old!! Wasn’t it just yesterday that daddy and I were walking miles around the apple orchard trying to get you to come out and meet us? I think back at how much you’ve changed from even just a year ago and it’s amazing how you went from being a sweet baby to being an even sweeter big boy.

Some big changes this year: Walking!! You were a late walker. You didn’t walk unassisted until you were 15.5 months. I really don’t blame you, you are living with 6 other people who love having you on their hip. Your vocabulary has exploded!! You give out ” I Love You’s” all day long. You are so independent, too! If I say “let mama help you” you’ll look at me and say “no, Beck help” or “no, Beck do” .  You went on your first airplane ride to Disney World where you fell MORE in love with Mickey Mouse and his friends. You started sleeping through the night. F I N A L L Y!! It only took 21 months but we did it!! We stopped nursing (completely at 23 months). You still ask for it every couple of days. But, we’re done. Which is a big change because I really thought you were gonna be attached to that boob until you were 5! You whip around on your little bikes and play all by yourself for a good, long while. You don’t need anyone to sit there and entertain you anymore.

Eating: You wake up every morning and the first thing you ask for is a banana. You sit and watch Mickey Mouse Clubhouse with a banana EVERY morning! For breakfast you usually have a waffle or a piece of toast with a yogurt. Lunch is different every day. You usually nap through lunch so it’s something quick like chicken nuggets, pasta or sometimes eggs with spinach. Dinner is whatever we’re eating for the night. You snack pretty healthy throughout the day. You LOVE LOVE LOVE berries! I always have to have them in the house. Favorite foods: Pizza! Good Earth baby granola bars, yogurt, bananas, berries, pretzels with hummus. Tortilla chips with salsa, cheese, crackers with cream cheese, ice-cream and m&m’s. I had to bribe you at a football game with them recently and you ask for them almost daily now.

img_5399

Playtime: You LOVE your cars and trucks!!! You sit for the longest time pushing them around and playing with your little garage. You still LOVE football and yell touchdown whenever you see a Patriots logo. You love to be outside and love having Lucy drive you around in your new truck!

img_5397

You love to go to the park and on walks. You LOVE when the girls have friends over because you LOVE teenage girls. Especially Chloe’s friend, Mia. As soon as she walks in the house you go running towards the door yelling “Mia!!” It’s pretty cute. You love teasing the dog and wrestling with whoever is sitting on the floor. You make me sit on the kitchen floor with you whenever you want to sit down for a snack. You pretty much have everyone in this house wrapped around that cute little two year old finger.

Oh Beckett!!! I love you with all of my heart!! I can’t wait to see what new things “2” brings this year!! Happy Birthday, buddy!!

Beckett James, Month 12

You’re an entire year old, little bubba!! img_6406

I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel the night before you turned one. Was I supposed to be sad that there wasn’t a “baby” in the house anymore? I love having babies around BUT I LOVE TODDLERS EVEN MORE!! There, I said it. Babies are cute and cuddly but toddlers are FUN! And ENERGETIC! And SWEET! And SILLY! And I honestly couldn’t wait! But, I enjoyed every moment of rocking you on your “last” night of babyhood. Which is kind of silly because you’re still obviously a baby 🙂

Likes: You love all things “boy”. You love playing with your cars and trucks. You love playing outside and already enjoy getting dirty. You love balls and Lucy’s tweety bird baseball bat. You love being outside in your car and on your swing. You LOVE your daddy right now and are starting to become a major daddy’s boy

Dislikes, being told no. That’s about it. You’re happy as long as we let you do what you want. HA!

Eats: Still nursing 5-6 times a day with no end in sight. You have a yogurt and banana every morning for breakfast. Lunch is always tricky because I feel like I’m giving you the same thing all the time: mac and cheese or sandwiches. Dinner is whatever we’re eating and you are NOT picky at all.

img_6235

Sleeps: NOPE! You started sleeping through the night at eleven months but the last three weeks have been TOUGH! You are getting up two to three times a night and I can’t figure out why. You refuse to put yourself back to sleep and won’t stop crying until I go in there.

You wake up super happy though, so I can’t complain too much.

Milestones: You still have six teeth and can point to them whenever I ask. You can also point out your nose and your belly. We’re still working on the other body parts 🙂 You can say the words: teeth, horse, cheese, down, dog, ball, mama, dada and baba (your grandfathers). You recognize all sorts of commands, climb the stairs, wave hello and good bye. You clap your hands when I start to sing patty cake or if you’re happy and you know it. You are cruising along the furniture and like to hide on me and then laugh when I find you. You are full of so much energy and are the happiest, silliest little boy I have ever met.

So, I’m not sad at all that the baby stage is over. I am SO excited to watch you learn and grow into the little boy you’re supposed to be. That doesn’t mean that I won’t rock you a little longer at night or hold you a little longer during the day. I love you, Beckett James. Happy Birthday!!

Beckett James, Month Five

This little bubba is getting so big!! I don’t have any weight or height stats right now because he won’t go back to the doctors until his 6 month check up. He is just about fitting in his 3-6 month outfits and he’s moved up to a size 3 diaper. B I G boy!!

We started solids this month and he’s loving them. I bought the jars for a couple of weeks to get him used to the texture but this week I started making our own in my Baby Bullet. I am having so much fun with it! I wish I had this for all of my babies. Right now I am giving him oatmeal and fruit for breakfast every morning and then he gets a veggie for dinner.  Most of his calories still come from nursing but I wanted him to get used to eating solids early on. His favorites are sweet potatoes and green peas.

He is getting so much better riding around in the car. I think he’s finally figured out that the screaming and hollering will do no good in the car 🙂 We’re always on the go with all of his big sisters.

We’ve been trying to take as many walks as possible lately. The weather has been so nice. He’s not loving the stroller yet, but it’s just another thing that will take a little while to get used to.

Another big milestone for Beckett this month is rolling over. He can roll from his back to his tummy but hasn’t figured out how to get his arm out from under him yet so he get’s mad and cries. He’s rolled over a couple of times at night and screams until I go get him.

Which leads me to the biggest Beckett news of month 5…. He’s sleeping in his own crib!!! A month ago I honestly believed that I would never sleep more than 2 hours at night again. Ok, I knew that wasn’t true but what a relief it’s been to get back on a somewhat normal schedule. We have a nice little bedtime routine going which is going up to his room (around 6:30) to put a nighttime diaper on, a leg massage with The Honest Company’s new Lavender lotion, we put on his jammies and I place him in his fleece sleep sack and then a quick nursing session in the rocking chair. Then I place him down in his crib somewhat awake.  It took almost 2 weeks for him to settle himself down on his own without crying. He still gets up any where from 1-3 times a night depending on his nap situation during the day. He sleeps so well at night when he gets a good nap in. We normally go upstairs around 6:30 and I’m back down around 7:00. It’s been nice to relax and spend alone time with his sisters.

I love all of these sleeping baby photos!

IMG_1962IMG_2098IMG_1979IMG_2158IMG_2232IMG_1988IMG_2139IMG_2211IMG_2257IMG_2190IMG_2262IMG_1976IMG_2288

I have never seen a cuter baby boy!! He is the sweetest little guy. He smiles so easily these days and is constantly giggling at someone. He’ll give you a raspberry if you give him one first and his new thing this week is squealing back when one of the girls squeals at him. He’s turning into a little mimic. I’ve been trying to get him to say mama and dada but he just looks at me and smiles.

He is a little drooler and I’m changing his shirt at least once a day because of it. He always has one bright red cheek and is always chomping on either his hand or a teething toy. No teeth yet, not even swollen gums but they’re coming.

Each month gets more and more fun with this little guy. Love you, Beckett!!!
