Lucy and I went to her kindergarten orientation this morning. Her teacher gave her a big hug when we walked into the classroom and seems really nice. Lucy was standing next to me being very quiet when 2 little girls walked up to her and asked her if she wanted to play with them. Then they took her by the hand and off they went.
I snapped a few photos with my phone and then I turned around and saw the other mother snapping pictures with her huge Canon camera. My kind of mom!!
Lucy is really excited about riding the bus this year!
School starts next Tuesday!!
And, just like that, summer is over.
We had our annual back to school dinner last night:
Emma started her senior year of high school today. It hit me last night that this will be my last first day of school with her. I remember her first day of preschool, whispering to Jon “I’m scared, daddy” and crying all the way home. I remember crying on her first day of kindergarten. I remember crying on her first day of 1st grade. I remember, oh you get it. I didn’t cry this morning, though. I think I might be in denial. Which is probably a good place for me to be right now.
This little sweetie started 8th grade this morning:
And seriously, how is she already in 6th grade?:
This next one makes me laugh because Megan was flipping out for me to take the picture before the bus pulled up. I guess it’s uncool for your mom to take your picture in front of the bus when you’re in 8th grade:
I’ve been enjoying a couple hours of quiet with Lucy. I still have her around for a few more days until she starts kindergarten.
Here’s a Lucy funny:
Last night when Jon tucked Lucy into bed he gave her a hug and she put her sweet little hands on his cheeks and said “Daddy, has anyone ever told you you’re ugly before? Because you’re not and you’re nice.” Hahahaha! God Bless her kindergarten teacher!
Tracey came up Friday to take Emma’s senior pictures. WHAT?!?! I am so excited to see them! I’m sure they’re going to come out beautiful. Of course I had to document the senior picture taking for myself:
What? You don’t take pictures of people taking pictures?
This little lady starts kindergarten a week from tomorrow. She’s so excited, she’s dancing through the meadow:
Tomorrow is our last day of summer vacation for Emma, Megan and Chloe. As you can see, there are no pictures of them dancing through the meadow.
I can’t believe we are into the last week of summer! We’re really going to miss these lazy summer mornings.
Sometimes when we’re driving down the street I pull over, make the kids get out of the car and start taking pictures.
It’s an addiction now 🙂
Lucy got her hair cut for kindergarten!!
I would like to say that Melissa (our hairdresser) told me to come quick with my phone since Lucy looked so cute getting her hair washed. People around here are REALLY getting to know how I am.
Megan and Paige swimming a couple of weeks ago:
Today is my 37th birthday. Jon’s away…. sigh…. I miss him.
Oh, I just LOVE summer weekends!! We spent both days playing in the backyard with the kids:
A little bit of yard work was done:
Until the tractor died again:
(is it creepy that I take pictures when he isn’t looking?)
We washed the cars:
We ate yummy food:
Lucy became a dragon fly whisperer:
And we spent Saturday night over a friends house, talking and laughing late into the night.
Of course the weekend wasn’t perfect. I had laundry and cleaning. I had a little girl who wasn’t feeling well. I broke up more arguments then I would like to admit to, Jon drove across 3 towns to pick Emma up from a sleepover and she was STILL sleeping when he got there. His tractor died after just getting it fixed 2 weeks ago and he was attacked by wasps while moving the hose. He got stung 3 times! Jon and I got into an argument but then something magical happened…. he admitted he was wrong. OH, I love him again!! It was a perfectly imperfect weekend!
The summer months are really slipping by now! I just realized that I never posted anything about the Belle and Sebastian concert we took Emma to. Belle and Sebastian’s music is like the sound track to our early years 🙂 Every time I hear their music it takes me back to our tiny little house with tiny little girls dancing around. Emma wanted tickets to see them for her birthday and since Jon and I have NEVER missed one of their Boston shows we were excited too!
Before the show we took Emma to Legal Seafood (where she tried to steal some rolls)
We posed on the pier:
It was a lot of fun sharing our band with Emma 🙂
My friend just sent me a text asking me to blog about my kitchen organization. I thought “What a fantastic idea!!” Unfortunately I am the most unorganized person out there. You know those people who show up to appointments on the wrong day? Yeah, that’s me. It’s not like I don’t have everything written down on a calendar in my unorganized kitchen either. Geez! When I first moved into this house I looked around my kitchen in awe! It was huge with TONS of cabinets and 2, yes 2, closets!! How on earth would I fill it all up? Well I became something of a dish hoarder. I have a couple sets in my cabinets, 2 sets of china in my hutch and another box in the attic (don’t tell Jon about that one). The kitchen in my first house was teeny tiny! I had just enough room for a table and 5 chairs. I also had very little cabinet and counter space. There wasn’t a built in microwave so that sat on my little counter. I never had enough room for my cereal boxes so they sat on top of the cabinets. But when I look through old pictures of the girls in that kitchen I wish I could remember exactly what it looked like in those cabinets. I wish I would have taken the time back then to take some more pictures. I don’t ever remember feeling cramped in that kitchen. I do, however, remember a lot of fun times with Jon and our babies in that kitchen. I spend more time in this room (typing in here now) then any other room in my house. I do have 5 other mouths to feed and someone is CONSTANTLY hungry! My cabinets are overflowing, there are always dishes to be done, i always have crumbs on my counter and floor, the computer desk is always over flowing with papers and books, there are always multiple pairs of shoes on the floor and toys to step over (or stub your toe on). But, when I take the time to look around I realize that it’s all a great big blessing. It’s always warm in the winter and cool in the summer. There is always food in the fridge and pantry. There’s always someone to give you a quick hug. So I can’t give any tips on kitchen organization but I can share with you some of my kitchen that means so much to me. Big or small, it doesn’t matter. As long as it’s filled with people you love you’ll be comfortable. I think it’s true that the kitchen is the heart of the home.
Woah! That scratch really shows up when there’s a flash on it.
My favorite apron!
This hangs because I’m obviously not corny or mushy enough when it comes to my family.
My favorite toy (besides my camera)
My Nana’s bean pot
Our place of peace, where we sit and hold hands and tell each other why we’re thankful for each other every night. This is not the place where we get annoyed with each other, fight, yell, sometimes cry, talk over one another, call names (what?), spill drinks or sneak food to Daisy. Yeah right!
One of my favorite chairs with some goodies made by my mommy.
It’s not a perfect kitchen, in fact there are lots of things that I would like to change but it’s mine and I share it with my five favorite people!
