Our London Weekend

We had a fabulous weekend here in London (minus the two trips to the emergency room). Hospitals over here are not like the US but I’m so thankful for these funny British doctors and the free health care in England. Can we talk a little about free health care in America? Kidding.

Friday night we finally found the Princess Diana Memorial Playground. It’s on the other side of Kensington Gardens and we’ve only walked by it about 15 times. But, we finally made it. It was the best playground we’ve ever been to!

Do you see the crows nest at the top of the Pirate ship? Yeah, Lucy and Chloe climbed to the top. Now I understand why most parents sit and look at their phones at the park instead of watching their kids take risks.

Saturday we tried to get to the changing of the guards but it was so crowded and we were pretty late. We did manage to see a little bit of the action before moving on

20140714-070348.jpg

Then we walked through a little market at St. James church

20140714-070436.jpg

20140714-070452.jpg

Had some gelato on Regent Street

20140714-070543.jpg

20140714-070558.jpg

Then we made it over to Soho, which is probably the coolest part of the city.

The girls and I did a little shopping while Jon had a pint at his second favorite pub.

We stopped at the splash pad to cool off a little

20140714-071057.jpg

Saturday night we walked over to his friend’s flat and had a glass of wine. It was a long, full day!

After trip #2 to the ER Jon and I took the girls to Notting Hill, my new favorite place since Soho. Seriously, this is a great city!!

I plan of heading back there this week with Emma. I have a feeling once she sees Notting Hill she’ll want to live here forever!

Last night Chloe and I went for a little walk and I found this little gem in the window of a consignment shop.

I think I need that white clutch.

London Day 8

The girls and I walked through the chilly London rain yesterday to get to the Natural History Museum.

I think Lucy enjoyed it more than any of us. We’ve been to the Harvard Natural History museum many times so we weren’t as excited. The building was out of this world gorgeous though.
After dinner we took a walk to the playground with the kids

20140711-090952.jpg

I can’t say enough how great of an experience this is and how much I’m enjoying this city living for a little while. I love being able to walk out the front door and have a ton of different activities waiting for us.
Our first week was great (minus the sick kids). Looking forward to more fun over the next month!

London Day 7

We finally found the playground at Kensington.

I love this cottage! It looks like it might be a private residence right inside the Garden. Whoever owns it has a nice Bentley parked in the driveway. I’m amazed at the cars around this city!! People park their Bentleys and Rolls on the street, bumper to bumper like they’re some sort of Honda.
Anyways, we didn’t get very far yesterday. I had to wait around for a couple of different maintenance guys to come over. The girls and I did take a walk down to the Serpentine and walk through the museum. It was a horrible museum but the walk was great 🙂
Jon took me out last night. He wanted to show me a traditional English Pub.

20140710-083902.jpg

20140710-083919.jpg

The kids were fine. They had their tablets to keep them busy. I’m not even sure they noticed we left.
When we came home we hung out on the patio and pretended we were part of Paris Fashion week

20140710-084110.jpg

I love this city!
And this family!

London Day 6

20140709-064407.jpg

That was my morning view while having my coffee. Not sure if England does the year round school or not. These kids in their little uniforms are adorable!

The girls and I went off into the city for the first time without Jon. After getting on a couple of buses that only brought us a quarter mile down the road, I think we have the bus routes figured out.
We found the BEST Disney Store on Oxford Street!

Lucy wants to go back to Disney.

Then we walked down to Hamleys Toy Store. The top level had a great candy shop! We filled up our candy cups and headed home. I was so proud of ourselves for not losing anyone 🙂

Lucy made this picture of the five girls standing in front of the Eye. When I asked where Daddy was she told me he was taking the picture. I think he was to nervous to get on.

Emma still wasn’t feeling well yesterday so the girls and I stayed close by and had a picnic across the street at KG. Jon and Chloe ran out to get fish and chips last night for dinner. It’s not something I would normally eat but it was really good. After dinner Jon and I took Chloe and Lucy back over to KG for a little stroll. We spent a little over 2 hours there playing in the park. We loved this Peter Pan statue we found! Another nice day here in London.

London Day 4

We started the day by taking a bus over to Regent Park. This is Jon’s favorite park in the city and it definitely did not disappoint! The gardens were beautiful!

20140707-090659.jpg

20140707-090714.jpg

We walked through the London Zoo, had a picnic and fed the birds

20140707-090918.jpg

20140707-091001.jpg

We stopped “home” to take a little break and then the stomach bug took down another one of our kids. She insisted on staying home to sleep while we went to the park across the street.

We walked over to see Prince Albert Hall and then over to Kensington Palace

That really didn’t work out.

All of these London update pictures are taken with my iPhone.

London Day 3

I spent most of the day in the flat with Chloe and Lucy. Luckily no one else got sick and she’s doing much better today.
Jon took Emma and Megan over to Kensington to explore a little.

20140706-150606.jpg

Later on he took Megan down to Oxford Street to do a little shopping. She found a couple of really cute outfits.

We finished the evening off by watching Notting Hill.
Very quiet and relaxing day.

London Day 2

Our tour of London continued yesterday. I’m impressed with how much our very handsome tour guide knows about the city.
We started the day by getting our Oyster cards. Then we hopped on one of the big red double decker buses. Our first stop was Oxford Street to check out the shopping. We went into a couple of stores but it was so crowded and we (Megan and Emma excluded) didn’t feel like shopping all day.

20140705-114306.jpg

20140705-114327.jpg

20140705-114348.jpg

By the time we walked through the shopping district we were all starving!! Jon took us to a little sandwich shop that he stops at on his lunch hour. Then we headed through to Piccadilly Circus. That place is awesome! There is so much to see and do there. I can’t wait to go back and explore again! We walked through Trafalgar Square and quickly went through the National Museum. All of my pictures of that are on my camera. After the museum we headed out to see the London Eye

20140705-114753.jpg

20140705-114806.jpg

20140705-114823.jpg

The views from the bridge were spectacular! We sat under the Eye, had some ice cream and watched the street performers.

20140705-115409.jpg

20140705-115430.jpg

As you can see there was a lot of walking done yesterday!!
We then went over to Westminster Abbey.

20140705-115603.jpg

20140705-115630.jpg

We finished the day by taking the tube back to Paddington. It was another long, fun and busy day. It ended by one of our poor children getting hit with the stomach bug. We’ve been up every hour on the hour dealing with that. She seems to be doing a little better right now. My fingers are crossed that tomorrow’s post isn’t all about the family being sick on day 3.
Our plan for today is to rest up, watch some funny British TV and maybe take a quick walk to Kensington Gardens to get some fresh air.

Cheerio!

London Day One

We arrived here in London at 8:30 yesterday morning. We were a little concerned about the 6 of us fitting into a taxi with all of our luggage but they had all these little Mercedes vans waiting outside the airport.

20140704-071410.jpg

20140704-071439.jpg

We arrived at the flat an hour before the realtor so we sat across the street at Kensington Gardens

20140704-071552.jpg

Once we met up with the realtor we found out that maintenance would be done on our apartment most of the day. They needed to replace some lights and do a few other things (that haven’t been done yet). So we headed out to the grocery store like a bunch of tired zombies. Shortly after that Jon needed to go into work so the girls and I had a quick nap. I found this little note Lucy wrote for her journal

20140704-071857.jpg

I made us all dinner and then Jon was excited to take us to Buckingham Palace. The palace is only a mile or two from here but it felt like 10 miles because we were so tired. Some of us were lucky enough to get a lift

20140704-072125.jpg

We walked through some beautiful gardens on our way

20140704-072227.jpg

20140704-072250.jpg

20140704-072306.jpg

It was a great day! I think we were all out as soon as our heads hit the pillows last night.
Jon just headed out to work. I think the girls and I will stick around Paddington today, do a little shopping and exploring and then head back over to Kensington Gardens to see if William and Kate would like to have some tea. After I get some more sleep of course. My body still thinks it’s 2am!
